A leather aviator jacket, women’s cut, is a shearling jacket first and a leather one second: the wool sits at the collar and cuffs, and it can line the whole body. The shapes vary. The brushed brown one is fitted, with notched shearling lapels, turned-back cuffs and an off-center zip that keeps the hardware clear of your chin when the collar is up.
An oversized cut goes the other way, with room built in over a sweater. Every jacket here is made after the order comes in, and cut to your own measurements if you send them.
What makes it an aviator
Women’s aviator leather jackets put the wool into the jacket rather than onto it: shearling at the collar, the cuffs and sometimes the hem, often a strap to buckle the throat shut, and, on the oversized cuts, a body wide enough that the wool has somewhere to sit. The glossy black one carries cream shearling at the collar, cuffs and hem, with buckled throat straps and two patch pockets trimmed in the same wool. The black jacket lined in ivory shearling is cut oversized, with wide shearling lapels, a buckled collar strap, two big flap pockets and zipped cuffs.
The leather, and how it wears
A leather shearling aviator jacket is never light. The warmth is in the wool itself rather than in a filling, so there is nothing inside to flatten or leak, and the weight is the trade. The brushed, distressed brown leather absorbs scuffs into the finish. Glossy black shows every mark and wipes clean. The wool flattens where a bag strap sits, then lifts again when you brush it.
Fit and sizing
A women’s leather aviator jacket is meant to go over a sweater, so take your usual size unless the jacket is cut oversized, in which case size down to bring it closer. Made after the order
Each jacket is cut from real leather and stitched by hand once the order comes in, on YKK zips where a jacket has one, and that takes five to seven days before it ships. Shipping is free worldwide. A standard size can go back within 30 days, with return postage paid by you unless the jacket arrived damaged. A jacket cut to your own measurements is made for one body, so it can only come back if it arrived damaged.
