Men's Aviator Leather Jackets
A leather aviator jacket started as flight kit: sheepskin with the wool left on, a collar deep enough to fold across the chest, and a zip set off to one side. The shapes run from the heavy B-3, through the shorter military flight patterns, to aviators with hoods. The B3 Flight Aviator is black sheepskin lined in gray shearling, with a wide shearling collar, shearling cuffs and a strap across the back of the hem. Sizes run XS to 3XL, and every men’s aviator leather jacket here is cut after the order comes in.
B-3, A-2 and G-1
The B-3 is the heavy end of the style: sheepskin worn wool-side in, so the wool at the collar and cuffs is the lining. The A-2 and the G-1 are the short military patterns, cut to clear a seat and a harness, with knit cuffs and waistband. Our cognac Air Force A-2 is cowhide with a rubbed finish, a shirt collar and epaulettes. The Navy G-1 carries a brown mouton collar and embroidered Navy patches on the front, sleeves and back. If you want a hood, the Handmade Shearling Aviator has a removable one on a drawcord.
Sheepskin, cowhide and lambskin
Sheepskin is what an aviator was originally cut from, and it runs through this page: wool inside, skin out, nothing to zip in. On the RAF Aviator that wool sits thick and ginger-colored at the collar, cuffs and hem. Cowhide is stiffer, which is why it holds a snap-down shirt collar where sheepskin would slump. Lambskin is the lightest: the WWII flying jacket is drum-dyed lambskin over a thick ginger wool lining. Black hides creasing, so a men’s black leather aviator jacket keeps its line; brown shows wear sooner.
Fit and sizing
Aviators are cut to sit away from the body, because they went over a uniform. Take your usual size and leave the wool room to work. Go up one if a heavy sweater has to fit under it. Every product page carries a size guide. Made to measure is free on every aviator leather jacket for men here: send your own measurements at checkout and the jacket is cut to them. A jacket made to your measurements can only be returned if it arrives damaged.
Made after you order
Each jacket is made to order, cut and stitched by hand with YKK zips where a jacket has one, and takes five to seven days to make and check before it ships, then about a week in transit. Shipping is free worldwide, and a standard size can go back within 30 days, with return postage on you unless the jacket arrives damaged. Bombers, flight patterns included, are in men’s bomber jackets. These aviators sit in men’s shearling jackets too, alongside coats and bombers. Everything else we make for men is in men’s leather jackets.
