Men’s Finest Sheepskin Flying Jacket – WWII Air Force Pilot – Brown Wool

A leather shearling jacket was what kept bomber crews warm at altitude, and this men's brown shearling flying jacket follows the ones they wore in the Second World War. It's dark brown leather outside with a thick ginger wool lining, and enough of that wool shows at the collar, front edges, cuffs and hem to frame the jacket.

The collar is wide and folds down over the shoulders, with a leather strap hanging from one side to close it at the throat. A slanted pocket is set into each side, and a half belt with a buckle pulls the hem in at the sides. Open the front and there's an inside pocket set into the wool. Of the men's shearling jackets we cut, this one stays closest to the wartime pattern.

The leather

Drum-dyed means the lambskin is tumbled in dye so the color goes right through, and scratches don't show a pale layer underneath the way sprayed leather can. It's full grain, with a smooth, slightly shiny face that softens and creases at the elbows over the first winter, the same as on our other men's sheepskin and shearling jackets.

Fit and sizing

Roomy through the body and sleeves, as the originals were. It was a wider pattern than a modern leather jacket for men, so most people should order their usual size. Care

Thick wool like this can go flat where you sit or lean, so give it a brush now and then. Clean the leather side with a lightly damp cloth, hang it on a broad hanger to keep the shoulders in shape, and don't let it near a washing machine.
