Men’s Shearling Sheepskin Flying Jacket

Curly ginger shearling lines this men's brown sheepskin flying jacket from the collar to the hem. The collar is big enough to lie open across the chest like a wide lapel, or to stand up around the neck once the zip is closed, and a small metal ring sits at one corner of it. It's among the fullest cut of anything in the men's shearling jacket collection.

Dark piping runs along the shoulder seams and across the chest, and on the back it forms a cross. Two large patch pockets with curved edges sit low on the front, one each side of the off-center zip, and the curly wool shows again at the cuffs and all around the hem. The pattern comes from the WW2 flying jackets, when a leather and shearling jacket was standard kit at altitude.

The sheepskin

The sheepskin is a deep, slightly reddish brown with a pebbled grain and a low sheen. Inside, the wool is left long and curly rather than clipped short, which holds more warm air and gives the collar its shaggy look. The leather side softens and creases with wear, mostly at the elbows and near the pockets.

Care

Shake the jacket out and work through the curly wool with your fingers or a wide comb when it clumps. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth, let it dry somewhere cool, and never put it in a washer or dryer.
