Care Details
Hang it on a broad hanger and let it dry naturally if it gets wet. Brush the wool at the collar and cuffs when it flattens, keep the fur trim away from heat and leave deep cleaning to a specialist. Never machine wash it.
Size & Fit
Roomier than most leather jackets for men, since a B-3 has to go over layers and the shearling itself is thick. Take your usual size for a sweater underneath. If you're between sizes, pick the larger one; the side straps take up any slack. The size guide on this page has chest and sleeve measurements, and if none of them line up, Made to Measure takes your own.
A men’s shearling jacket in the oldest shape there is: the B-3 bomber, copied from the Second World War flight jacket, in dark brown sheepskin. The leather side faces out with its natural grain showing, and the thick cream wool faces in, turning out at the collar, cuffs and hem. A two-strap throat latch buckles the wide collar shut.
The hood zips on behind the collar, with raccoon fur around the face, and comes off. The front zip is brass, the hand pockets are slanted with leather welts, and buckle straps at the sides pull the hem in. Those straps are what make a leather shearling jacket work in wind. It sits at the heavy end of our men’s shearling jackets.
The shearling
This is sheepskin with the wool left on, so the warmth is part of the hide, not a lining sewn in. That’s the difference between it and a leather and shearling jacket built from two materials. The leather side has a pebbly grain, normal for shearling and good at hiding scuffs. It loosens up in a few weeks.
